Jesus said “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
I want to share an encounter that I had with the Lord some years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada when I believe that the Lord through the Holy Spirit sang a word to me that literally changed the course of my life. He just might speak to you through this word that I call:

“The Song of the Lord”

“Some may trust in horses, some may trust in chariots- but we will trust in the Name of our God.”

As I watch the American political scene- with the posturing and scandals and pointing fingers from both sides of the aisle as Democrats and Republicans fight for “control”; as I hear reports about the war on terror, gas prices falling and rising, the housing market sliding, then strengthening, Wall Street hitting an all time high…”but will it last ask economists?”, I am reminded of the scripture above.

I think, even since the horrific events of 9/11, that Americans, whatever their political leanings or lack thereof, are subtly (or overtly), trusting in our economy and military might.
That is misplaced trust.

Oh, don’t get me wrong- I am thankful to be an American, glad that I live in this country and grateful for the many opportunities afforded me because I am here-but…

The best governments of man have a fatal flaw… they are the governments of man!

There is a source, however of justice, peace and security that transcends ethnic, political, social and geographical boundaries: The Kingdom of God.

When Jesus came on the scene in Mark’s gospel, He said “The time is at hand, the kingdom of God is here. Repent and believe the gospel.”

He said (in my paraphrase): “I have come to bring in a new way of relating to God and each other and I have brought my Kingdom with me”!

The word “repent” is a good word, despite the visions of shaggy haired sandwich-signboard wearers (”The End is Near”) and angry, “hellfire and brimstone” spittle-flecked preachers that the word may evoke. The word “repent” means: To have a drastic and 180 degree change of direction, change of mind and begin to walk in a new direction.

Jesus said, in effect- I came to bring such a new way of living that you can’t live in the old ways any longer. No more self-effort in God’s Name- I will empower you, bring heaven into your life by my grace.”

This Kingdom of God is affecting the whole world to this day. Blessed are the people who acknowledge their need for God and His ways. No matter who wins the election coming up, the Kingdom of God is marching on.

I am not suggesting that Believers in Christ should not be involved in the political process; on the contrary- as citizens of the Kingdom we are charged with the call to be salt and light and influence those around us by the Love of God in us. The Word continues to be made flesh through the people of God. The good news is that God is on the Throne no matter which way the political or economic winds blow. His purposes are going forward, and we have the priviledge of cooperating with Him as the knowledge of the Glory of the the Lord covers the earth as the waters cover the sea.

Some may trust in horses and some may trust in chariots but we will trust in the Name of our God!

Rita and I are in Denver, Colorado this week for a Worship Encounter Weekend at Church in the City. (See Itinerary page on this site for info).

We have been invited by Pastor Gary Hines who heads up Denver Metro Transformation. Also involved are Pastor Felix Gilbert from Restoration Christian Fellowship, Pastor Jude Del Heiro (who Wrote “More Love, More Power) of Confluence Ministries; Billy Sprague, songwriter and musician extraordinaire who now is the worship Pastor at Crossroads Church, and Bradford Richardson, Worship Pastor at the multi-ethnic Church in the City.

The Encounter starts this Friday night, Oct.13, at 7 P:M and continues from 9 A:M to 4 P:M on Saturday. God is up to good things in Denver and we hope you in the area will join us-and pray for us!

Also, be looking very soon for a brand new feature on our site: digital downloadable singles (I want to call them “songles”!)

When Jesus first was introducing Himself and His ministry He said: Repent -(Change your heart and your mindset- your way of viewing things) and believe the good news for the Kingdom of God is here! There is abundant Life in Christ that transcends gloomy headlines, adverse situations, relational and financial difficulties and by the Holy Spirit we that wait upon the Lord can mount up with wings as eagles, do the works of Jesus and live in abundant Kingdom life NOW!!
