“The Breath of God” Greetings From Athens, Greece

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Hello from the ancient city of Athens, Greece! Rita and I are here as part of the “Power and Heart of Worship” conference with Pastor Xenophon and Anna Hadjiliades and Hellenic International Christian Church.

A friend of mine gave me a wonderful book Dr. Eddie Lawrence authored called “Breath of God” (available through Thomas Nelson- I highly recommend it). The book and the Holy Spirit have been speaking to me since we arrived in Greece. Yesterday morning at 5:30, I was awakened and the Lord began giving me a song. I share the lyrics here:

“Breath of God Breathe on Me”
David Baroni/2007 Kingdomsongs Inc.

Breath of God breathe on me
Breath of God breathe on me
Spirit Wind blow again
Breath of God breathe on me
Breath of God breathe on me

Just like Adam in the garden
You formed me and You gave Your life to me
Still like Adam I am tempted
To eat the fruit of the forbidden tree
O God the Lord hear my cry
Send your fiery healing wind
Make these dry bones live again!

Breath of God breathe on me
Breath of God breathe on me
Spirit Wind blow again
Breath of God breathe on me
Breath of God breathe on me

I’m created in Your image
And in Jesus I receive my destiny
Though the darkness comes against me
Nothing overcomes Your light in me
O God of Grace hear my praise
Holy Spirit Healing Wind
You have filled my heart again!

God is singing over you (Zephaniah 3:17) He has breathed Life, Purpose, Destiny and capacity for eternal intimacy with the Creator of the Universe Who, through Christ, is our Father.

Heart to Heart

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

We have a saying about people who play music without being able to read music… we call it “playing by heart.”

I like that phrase. It intimates that music is more than just notes on a page, or mindless muzak to make people spend more in a grocery store, or to keep us from having to talk to one another (heaven forbid!) in an otherwise quiet elevator.

I have always believed that there was more to music than meets the ear. I play “by heart”.

More than that, I want to live by heart.

Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” When the apostle Peter correctly answered the question “Who do you say that I am”, Jesus said: “Blessed are you for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father did…”

Man is a triune being: Spirit (the essence or essential nature of man- created in God’s own image), Soul (the seat of the emotions, mind and will), and body (the geographical and physical expression- the “housing” as it were).

Most education systems, the media, entertainment, and economic systems of the world focus on the body and the soul (what Watchman Nee calls the “Outer Man”), to the exclusion of the part of us that connects us with God, our spirit… (the “inner man.”)

How do we begin to know the “Unknowable”?
We live by every word that comes from God… we live by heart, by revelation, not just information.

Though faith is mysterious and intangible, it is not untethered to reality. (A wild mustang running with the wind through the Black Hills still needs food, water and shelter.) Though the Kingdom of God is invisible, one can see the effects of the Kingdom- just as we can see a tree blown by the wind without ever seeing the wind itself.

Jesus said “the Kingdom of God comes not by observation- behold the Kingdom of God is within you!”

There is a firm foundation for faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That foundation is scripture, the Bible, the Word of God- not only an historical record and full of poetry and law, but an actual “living” book that reveals Who God is.

Living faith worships God with more than the mind- some worship the Book of the Lord more than the Lord of the Book and are afraid to have any question unanswered- even if an answer is manufactured instead of really true.

God lives “by heart”, He wants a heart-to-heart relationship with you and me. It’s an adventure, it’s scary and exciting, that kind of a relationship is real life!

God has called us into an eternal adventure of intimacy with Christ!

In The Promised Land

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

I used to think that once I arrived in the “Promised Land”, I would have all the milk and honey I wanted, and there would be no more problems or adversity; I could finally rest.

However, if I use the example of the children of Israel, the Promised Land indeed flowed with milk and honey, but there were still giants in the land, battles to be fought and hardship to contend with.

So why would I want to be in the Promised Land?

Because I want to know my God more intimately, I want to appropriate by faith the destiny that is already mine in Christ- and see that destiny lived out by my children and grandchildren and the spiritual sons and daughters that are born through the intimacy that I have with Christ.

If I never had any trials or problems how could enjoy the victories? How could I relate to and have compassion for those who do have adversity? How could I, with the authority of experience, tell others that “though weeping may endure for a night, Joy comes in the morning?”

God’s purpose for choosing and blessing Israel was illustrated in Psalm 67:
“God, be merciful to us and bless us and cause Your Face to shine upon us

    SO

that Your saving health may be known among the nations! (emphasis mine).

I want to know Christ in the fellowship of His sufferings and the power of His resurrection. I believe to be fully alive is to know Him in both, realizing that, as Paul wrote: “knowing that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Shall I seek suffering? Do I like pain? No, a thousand times know- on the contrary, I have tried (futilely) most of my life to engineer circumstances that would exempt me from pain. Thanks be to God that there is a grace and a peace that transcends our circumstances

“To know You… this is my passion
To know You… the desire of my heart is
To know You… I long to discover
More than Your works- show me Your ways
As I look past Your hand to Your face
I gladly give myself away…
To know You!”

We look forward to the 2007 from Heaven!
Godrest and Godspeed!
