I am here in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

My friend from Lagos and Effective Worship Seminars, Wale Adenuga and I just completed a wonderful weekend of worship at a great church-The Refuge at House on the Rock with Pastor Obi Ekwueme.

The people were very receptive and the Presence of the Lord was tangible. I appreciate the emphasis on reality instead of religiosity that Pastor Obi and the saints here have.

The band and singers were tremendous! They are a very gifted and powerful team with excellent spirits.

It is humbling to be received by such a gracious, beautiful and passionate people who shine with the love of God. Some of the African rhythms and dances and celebration left me feeling very… ok… white!

And very appreciative to be in this country of destiny.

Pray for Nigeria- there is a national election coming in April that is pivotal as to the direction this country goes. There is a potential for tremendous upheaval and division however we are trusting that God will continue to give His grace and protection to this land pregnant with purpose in God, a purpose that transcends Nigeria, indeed purpose for Africa and the nations!

If you think of it, pray for the rest of my time here. We leave for Kaduna tomorrow, then on to Lagos (you haven’t had adventures until you experienced Lagos traffic!) for the end of the week.

There is a strange, hopeful, beauty in the brooding bleakness of this February winter morning.

As I walked around my neighborhood, I noticed that, though most of the trees had long ago dropped their leaves, there were a few stubborn trees clinging to dead brown foliage. (Or were the leaves the ones holding on?)

I want to embrace the new life that God has for me, so as I observed the trees, I symbolically and spiritually let go of any old life that I was, for whatever reason, clinging to.

Even in the cold, in the gray and brown dullness of the deep of this winter, there is a promise of a glorious spring.

This is one of my favorite songs. We cast about in this life, restlessly going from pursuit to pursuit, wanting purpose, but many times finding mere distractions, wanting to know and be known, but often ill aware of the painful price of such longings. To really live, to really feel, to really be, is often to experience pain, loss, loneliness and fear. Yet, to merely “exist”, a pain-free robot, is much worse.

There is One Who knows us, Who has been there, experienced everything we have and offers us not only empathy, but ultimate accepatance, safety, serenity, and exhilarating joy!
My soul (my will, emotions and mind) ultimately finds rest in Him alone!
